Marché du Film - Film Market

Marché du film

In its desire to serve and promote the dual nature of film, as both a cultural and economic enterprise, the Festival de Cannes created the Film Market for the Official Selection in 1959, so as to lend some of its own energy to the international film industry.

In 2009, having become the premier rendezvous for film professionals the world over, the Film Market celebrated its 50th anniversary by welcoming 10,000 participants from 101 countries representing 4,000 companies, with 400 exhibitors. Producers, sellers, distributors and financiers came to build the partnerships that will create the films of tomorrow.

Each year, the Film Market encourages cinematic creation by giving the industry a place to meet, and by providing professionals with precise services and tools to facilitate their meeting, discussions and negotiations. Last year, nigh on 4,000 films and projects were presented; 1,500 screenings took place, 75% of which were premieres.

In 2004, the Film Market set up the Producer’s Network, a programme of unique initiatives for producers based on the singular challenges of their profession. Along with its database, www.cinando.com the Market is able to accompany its participants in their daily business all year long.

Entirely dedicated to movie industry professionals,
the Marché du Film takes place once a year at the Festival de Cannes.

A wide range of participants
About 10 000 participants representing the film industry as a whole including its various distribution means (from movie theater and VOD to TV broadcasting and video), are brought together
in a spacious 14 OOO m², with no fewer than 400 exhibitors animating the site.

Friendly working areas
Spaces dedicated to professionals include the Riviera, Lérins, a selection of suites and apartments
and (naturally) the Palais des Festivals, which stand as privileged settings for networking, and not to
mention the cornerstone of any film market, including some 30 screening rooms, many of them equipped for digital cinema and 3D.

Ten days to progress
The organizers of the Marché du Film are never short of initiatives to provide the best possible stay for professionals.
Their work can be summed up with three key words: fluidity, publicity, opportunity.
Fluidity: A great deal of tools and services have been specially set up to facilitate work and communication among participants.
Publicity: A wide variety of tools allow professionals to communicate their latest news and their projects in the best conditions.
Opportunity: The Marché brings the whole movie business together, and is therefore the ideal place for productive meetings and the perfect setting for projects
